Various additions and tweaks to my section on Dark Hearts of Chicago, adding reviews of the novel, and a link to darkheartsofchicago.com. In a May 9 2007 weblog comment, Helen Rappaport posted that Dark Hearts of Chicago "will be published by Pocket Books in the USA early next year [2008] though in a shorter version than the UK version, and probably under the title City of Dark Hearts."
I caught and fixed a couple of typos in my Frequently Asked Questions, and answered Who does this website? even though it isn't really frequently asked.

I now have information (in a whole new section) on "The Museum Bell", William Horwood's first and I believe only short story, which was published in Lands of Never: an anthology of modern fantasy in 1983. I've added a mention of it to the FAQ.
I've tweaked some of the wording of information on WHBooks Community.
I've made a start on properly noting sources of my Information about William Horwood.

I have put up my review of Dark Hearts of Chicago.
Saturday, April 07, 2007
I have updated the Frequently Asked Questions and tweaked some wording in my section on Dark Hearts of Chicago. I have, of course, been reading Dark Hearts of Chicago. It has a distinct voice, similar to that of Horwood's other writings, but decidedly not the same. The setting is dark and compelling, and the characters—of which there are several—distinctive. While I have noticed quite a few missing commas, and one incorrect reference to a date, I have been told there were significant corrections done after the uncorrected proof; it's unlikely that these errors are in the final published book.

Today I received my review copy, marked uncorrected proof, of Dark Hearts of Chicago. The accompanying material notes "Published by Hutchinson on April 5th 2007". I plan to begin reading it this week, and to post a review once I have finished the book. For today, I have posted my first impressions, linked from my new section on Dark Hearts of Chicago.
I've added a more about The Boy With No Shoes, quoting information on the back of my copy of Dark Hearts of Chicago. I've added Dark Hearts of Chicago to the navigation of that page, as I have done to this main one; I'll be updating the navigation bar throughout the site.

http://www.horwoodrappaport.com/ has been updated with frequently asked questions, which include mention that the second book "in the series will be published by Random UK in Spring 2008." Also added to the site is a Chicago reading list, and about talks and presentations.
There is information on Dark Hearts of Chicago and on William Horwood at the website of A.M. Heath & Company, Authors' Agents.

Apparently, April 2007 is in fact the month that Dark Hearts of Chicago will be published in Britain. (I'd assumed that the April 2007 release date listed on http://www.horwoodrappaport.com/ was incorrect.)
The publication in Canada, then, is the July 2007 date; I haven't yet seen a timeframe for the U.S.A. publication.

A new novel by William Horwood, co-authored with historian Helen Rappaport, is due to be published on July 24, 2007. Dark Hearts of Chicago is a historical mystery novel or thriller, set in nineteenth century Chicago. It will be published by Hutchinson (Random House) as a hardcover (list price $42.50 Canadian) and a trade paperback ($24.95).
Listing for Dark Hearts of Chicago (trade paperback) at RandomHouse.ca
Listing of the hardcover and of the trade paperback at Chapters.indigo.ca. (There is also a minimal listing on Amazon.com.)
http://www.horwoodrappaport.com/ states that Dark Hearts of Chicago will be published in April 2007. The site includes (part of) the first chapter of the novel. And blurbs about the authors. The final sentence line of William Horwood's is: "He is currently working on a major new fantasy series."
